Body Psychotherapy has its roots in the early 20th century, emerging from the understanding that the body and mind are inseparable — that our emotional life, our history, and our patterns of protection are expressed not only in our thoughts, but in our breath, posture, movement, and energetic flow. This field began with the pioneering work of Wilhelm Reich, a student of Freud, who recognised that the body holds “armour” — chronic muscular and energetic patterns formed through stress, trauma, and emotional suppression. Reich’s work opened the door to a new way of seeing the human being: not as a mind with a body, but as a fully integrated, living system.
In the decades that followed, Reich’s ideas inspired a generation of practitioners who expanded and refined this approach. Among them was Dr. Alexander Lowen, who developed Bioenergetics, a modality that combined psychotherapy with breath, movement, grounding, and expressive work to restore the natural flow of life‑force energy in the body.
From this lineage, Core Energetics emerged through the work of Dr. John Pierrakos, a psychiatrist who trained with Reich and co‑founded Bioenergetics with Lowen. Pierrakos later integrated the psychological, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of healing into a more holistic system. Core Energetics recognises that beneath our defences and survival patterns lies a deeper “core” — the place of authenticity, love, creativity, and purpose. The work aims to dissolve the layers that obscure this core so that a person can live with greater presence, vitality, and truth.
Modern Body Psychotherapy, including the work taught at the Institute of Body Psychotherapy in Australia, draws from these foundations while integrating contemporary understandings of the nervous system, trauma, attachment, somatic regulation, and energetic psychology. It honours the five fundamental aspects of being — body, emotions, mind, will, and spirit — and works with them as an interconnected whole.
At its heart, Body Psychotherapy is a return to wholeness. It invites us to listen to the body’s wisdom, to soften the armour that once kept us safe, and to reconnect with the aliveness that has always been there. It is both a therapeutic process and, for many, a spiritual journey — one that supports us in living with more presence, authenticity, and inner freedom.

I work with individuals who feel called to heal, grow, and reconnect with themselves on a deeper level. This work is for those who sense that their body holds stories, tension, or emotions that talking alone hasn’t fully reached.
I support people who are:
navigating stress, overwhelm, or burnout
carrying unresolved emotions or long‑held tension
healing from trauma, grief, or life transitions
feeling disconnected from their body, intuition, or purpose
longing for more presence, vitality, and authenticity
seeking a deeper, more embodied therapeutic experience
curious about the energetic and spiritual dimensions of healing
If you feel drawn to this work, there is usually a reason — your body already knows.

Body Psychotherapy can support anyone who wants to understand themselves more deeply and live with greater ease. It is especially beneficial for those who:
have “tried talk therapy” but feel something is still missing
experience chronic tension, shutdown, or emotional overwhelm
struggle with boundaries, self‑trust, or self‑expression
feel stuck in repeating patterns
sense a disconnect between who they are and how they live
want to soften their armour and reconnect with their aliveness
desire a therapeutic process that includes the body, emotions, mind, will, and spirit
This work meets you exactly where you are — gently, respectfully, and at your pace.
-
Body Psychotherapy works by engaging the whole person — not just the mind, but the breath, posture, movement, energy, and emotional landscape.
This approach helps you:
understand the deeper roots of your patterns
release long‑held tension and emotional residue
regulate your nervous system
reconnect with your intuition and inner truth
feel more grounded, centred, and present
restore the natural flow of your life‑force energy
build resilience, clarity, and self‑trust
It helps you make sense of your inner world — and gives you tools to transform it.
-
Clients often experience:
greater emotional regulation
reduced anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
improved boundaries and self‑confidence
deeper connection to body and intuition
increased vitality, clarity, and groundedness
release of long‑held patterns and protective armour
more authentic relationships
a sense of inner safety, presence, and wholeness
The changes are often subtle at first — then profound.

My approach is wholistic, compassionate, and grounded in the understanding that the body and mind are inseparable. I work with the five fundamental aspects of being — body, emotions, mind, will, and spirit — as an integrated whole.
My work is shaped by:
somatic awareness — listening to the body’s wisdom
energetic understanding — recognising where life‑force is blocked or flowing
psychodynamic insight — understanding patterns and defences
presence and compassion — meeting you exactly where you are
collaboration — you remain in full agency and choice
This work is not about “fixing” you — it’s about helping you reconnect with the parts of you that already know how to heal.

Body Psychotherapy is a slow, attuned, and deeply therapeutic process. Just as your patterns, protections, and emotional armour developed over years — often decades — the unwinding, healing, and integration also unfold gradually. This work honours the pace of your nervous system, the depth of your lived experience, and the time it takes to soften, process, and reconnect with your authentic self.
Each session builds upon the last, creating a steady, grounded pathway toward greater presence, clarity, and wholeness. If you feel ready to begin this journey, I would be honoured to walk alongside you.
